Tasmania reports record warm winter water

11 (UPI) — Australian scientists along Tasmania’s eastern coast report the highest winter water temperature ever recorded there — more than 55. 4 degrees Fahrenheit. The scientists from Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research rganization said the warming is due to a strengthening of the Leeuwin Current which originates north of Australia. That current has expanded significantly curling around the southern tip of Tasmania and reaching as far north as St Helens. The Southern Hemisphere including Australia and Tasmania is now experiencing its winter season.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission has confirmed Vanessa Goodwin as the new MP for Pembroke replacing former Labor minister Allison Ritchie. When the Legislative Council resumes after the winter break in two weeks Ms Goodwin will be the first Liberal MLC since Peter McKay’s departure in 1999. Ms Goodwin says she is relieved after a 10-day wait for postal ballots. “A sense of relief and I guess starting to feel a sense of excitement as well. Four legal firms with which Sonya Causer had ”a large number of email exchanges” on her work email account have been named in legal documents along with 13 real estate agents through which she bought and leased properties in Melbourne Queensland and Tasmania. Mrs Causer and her husband Michael have had their assets frozen and have been ordered not to spend more than $1000 each on living expenses a week or more than $10000 on legal expenses as her former employer tries to recoup the money she siphoned off into personal banking accounts over two years. They have been ordered by the Supreme Court of Victoria to hand over all documents relating to the property and stolen money. Clive Peeters hopes to sell the properties to recover the losses. While fraud squad police are aware of the case charges have not yet been laid against Mrs Causer a senior financial accountant at Clive Peeters now suspended without pay or Mr Causer.
