PUBLIC INQUIRY NEEDED INT MEDICAL CUNCIL F TASMANIA
Tasmanian Greens
Greens Member for Bass Kim Booth MP said that as well as the original debacle of Dr McGinity’s suspension by the Medical Council without a proper quorum and without releasing any reasons there are now suggestions that the accusations made against Dr McGinity came via the office of Health Minister Lara Giddings and only a full inquiry can satisfy public disquiet over this escalating situation. “How can a regulatory body make a decision to suspend a vital regional Doctor from his duties without releasing reasons and without even having a proper quorum?” said Mr Booth. “The Greens are very concerned with the role of the Medical Council in this affair and given the questions now being raised about the origin of the allegations against Dr McGinity we believe that only a full public inquiry can clear the air. ” Text of motion tabled in Parliament today by Kim Booth MP:That the House directs the Bartlett Labor government to immediately implement a public inquiry into the powers functions and responsibilities of the Medical Council of Tasmania.
