The national roll-out of super-speed fibre-to-the-home broadband will occur in Tasmania first in a coup for the Bartlett Government. While city-based businesses and IT lobbyists were ecstatic yesterday there was anger in rural areas with the news that firms and residents of 68 small towns in the state would miss out. Under the network’s fine print only towns with populations of more than 1000 can be guaranteed access to FTTH which brings internet speeds of up to 100 megabits a second.
