For people such as 38-year old Brisbane driver Simon Clarke it was oneof the things that lured him to the event and saw him make his debut in2008. With little motorsport background Clarke entered the Targa Rookie Rallylast year in a virtually standard Honda Integra Type R. He finished in14th place after suffering power steering failure on day one and missingsome stages. In 2009 he returns to the event with a new car a 2008 Mitsubishi LancerEvolution X that has been prepared by Team Mitsubishi Ralliart for theShowroom Class.

As the human rights talkfest left Melbourne last week Tasmanians were preparing to take part in local discussions. The consultation roadshow hits Launceston on April 30 then Hobart on May 4. The Hobart Community Legal Service and the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group will convene forums on the rights of same-sex couples in both Tasmanian and federal law. The forum will involve legal experts in areas of same-sex parenting and will cover topics such as formal recognition of relationships social security and other entitlements. Experts will give an overview of their areas and will be available to answer questions. The same-sex relationships forum in Hobart is on Wednesday April 22 6 to 7. 30pm in the meeting room of the McDougall Building Ellerslie Rd Battery Point.

The Board which was established in January to oversee thoroughbred racing pacing and greyhound racing held its first industry-wide consultation on Friday. Breeder Graeme McCulloch from the Grenville stud near Hagley says there are a range of structural problems that need to be fixed. Wombat-Generated Paper a Tourist Favorite in Tasmania

Burnie has been hit by repeated rounds of job cuts but despite the gloom one local industry is growing rapidly – producing handmade paper out of a material no one else wants – wombat dung. The novelty paper has been a hit with tourists who are keen to buy a distinctly Australian souvenir from their trip to northwestern Tasmania.
