Guys like Bruno Santos Mitch Coleborn and Tasmania surfer Dustin Hollack scored shack time amongst the tricky conditions. “I didn’t have a local advantage in terms of knowing the wave because I’m from down south in Hobart and I only come up here a few times” Hollack said. ” But maybe in terms of water temperature I had a bit of an advantage — some of these guys were saying it was freezing for them.

Australia’s hidden gem Tasmania: an island with everything

After answering a number of these inquiries I started to expect quizzical reactions followed by one of a number of responses. These ranged from “Tasmania?! That’s a real place?” to the most popular reply “Tasmania. That’s in Africa right?” Before choosing to study in Tasmania I too had little knowledge of the miniature island that had broken away from the larger landmass Australia. I was a bit surprised however to discover that Tasmanians frequently encounter people — sometimes even fellow Australians — who are unaware of the land’s existence. People are unaware of Tasmania because of its detachedness from Australia’s other six states commonly referred to as the mainland. Plus terrorism war and political scandal are quite rare here — as well as on the entire continent — so Tasmania escapes media coverage.

The new measures will enhance restrictions on access to gambling by minors and also impose mandatory codes to improve gaming environments including a prohibition on attendant service of alcohol and food in public gaming areas between 9pm and close of operations each day. Additionally the measures will enhance training requirements for gaming staff in identifying problem gamblers whilst also improving information available to players on game rules and returns. ?These new measures will ensure Tasmania has the best harm minimisation practices in Australia? Tasmania Treasurer Michael Aird said. ?The consumer protection measures are aimed at protecting all gamblers not just problem gamblers.

Govt seeks fast-track to secure Federal funds

The Premier David Bartlett introduced legislation to Parliament to exempt Tasmanian projects funded under the Commonwealth’s second economic stimulus package from the Land Use Planning Approvals Act. The projects include $370 million for schools and nearly $140 million for public housing. Mr Bartlett has told Parliament the Federal funding will be jeopardised if Tasmania can not meet tight time-lines. “It would not be possible to meet those deadlines without this legislation” he said. “Failure to meet these timeframes and obligations may result in the Commonwealth withdrawing project funding under the plan as well as equivalent funding from future Commonwealth funding to Tasmania” he said. “I’m not going to let that happen Mr Speaker this government won’t let that happen. The Premier says the first stage of primary school work must start by June.

The rescuers were trying to stabilize the mammals before freeing them from the sand and guiding them back to sea it said. It was the latest mass beaching of whales in Australia. Strandings happen periodically in Tasmania in the southeast as whales pass during their migration to and from Antarctic waters but scientists do not know why it happens. It is unusual however for whales and dolphins to become beached together. The department said the group of false killer whales and bottlenose dolphins became stranded early Monday morning on a stretch of beach about 4 miles (6 kilometers) long. “ur main priority is to ensure the welfare of the remaining alive whales before we herd them back out to sea” Greg Mair the departmental officer leading the rescue said in a statement. Returning the whales to the sea depends on the conditions and the strength of the animals he said adding that current “ocean conditions are quite dangerous with rough seas and large waves.
