Leading meterologist Roger ‘Clouds’ Badham comments. ‘This afternoon was always going to be the trickiest part of the race and it?s not disappointed. ‘The trough line has moved from Victoria to the eastern coast of Tasmania. ‘ Right now the westerly has come in on Flinders Island there is 20. 7 knots from the west and 21. 4 knots at Wilson?s promontory and at Maria Island is swung to the south west at 19.

Up to 18 wild devils fitted with data-gathering collars aremissing believed dead at Narawntapu National Park in Tasmania’snorth the Herald has learnt. The losses follow signs that the equipment was troubling someanimals. Their necks became chafed and in two cases devils werefound with legs caught in the collars sources said. The animal ethics committee at the University of Tasmaniafinally withdrew approval for the research because it was concernedat the number of animals that could not be retrieved. “It’s not reasonable to put equipment on animals if there is apossibility of them carrying it for the rest of their lives” theuniversity’s animal welfare adviser Barrie Wells said.

Tributes paid to Eartha Kitt

” She was one of the few artists who have been nominated for Tony Grammy and Emmy awards. Among others paying tribute were the Green party in Australia after she helped save the Franklin River in the 1980s. The Greens leader Senator Bob Brown said: “Ms Kitt visited Tasmania and spoke out in favour of saving the Franklin River and gave a great boost to the campaigners in their darkest hour. “It was a brave thing for her to do and her contribution was important to saving Tasmania’s great wild river. ” Miss Kitt was diagnosed with cancer two years ago. It was treated but recurred after a period of remission. She refused to give into the disease brazenly continuing to flaunt her attributes.
