Low entries threaten Rally Tasmania
RallySport Magazine Australia
Rally Tasmania is hardly immune to this and at present we are experiencing lower than normal entry numbers. Ironically Rally Tasmania is not the only event in this predicament and as a consequence we are faced with the prospect of an event that we feel would not meet the expectations of our customers if we don?t receive additional entries in the near future. To this end we are asking that if you are considering competing in the 2009 Rally Tasmania February 13-15 that you complete an Application to Compete form (attached to this email or available from our website) and fax or email back to the Rally Office prior to 12noon Tuesday 31st December. If we do not receive appropriate entry numbers by 12noon Tuesday 31st December we will be forced to place the 2009 Rally Tasmania in Care & Maintenance for 2009 and begin to focus on a brighter event for 2010. MSR Corporate is committed to promoting first class events with solid competition and to reassure those that have entered to date all entry fees will be fully refunded if this is the case but we certainly hope that many will decide to come and enjoy the spectacular course we have planned including Hellyer Gorge Savage River and the new Sunday loop based around the famous Cethana stages south of Sheffield.

Quarrels between Ausveg and the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association are continuing as Ausveg won’t accept the nomination of Forth farmer Mike Badcock as the Tasmanian representative. Mr Badcock was the chairman of Ausveg until he resigned in April this year and was responsible for the company adopting a new constitution just recently. TFGA acting general manager Chris Oldfield says the association is withholding its membership payment. “I don’t believe Tasmanian farmers are going to miss out.

Forest activists arrested
Tasmania Mercury Australia
" Protest group spokesman Christo Mills said the action was intended to highlight the role of forests in moderating climate change. "An Australian National University study released in August has shown that some of these forests store up to 10 times more carbon than previously thought" he said. "Tasmania's ancient forests can play a critical role in combating critical climate change. "We are calling on the Rudd and Bartlett governments to take serious action on climate change and ensure the immediate protection of Tasmania's globally significant forests. "The war of words over Tuesday's protest continued yesterday. Senator Eric Abetz attacked Tasmanian Greens leader Nick McKim for backing the protesters. "Nick McKim's support for the illegal actions of forest protesters at Triabunna confirms that the Greens are still a radical party of the far Left" he said.
