Cast off from daily concerns

Not least among fly fishing’s many benefits is the kind of habitat that trout like to live in. To prosper they need cool clear water. So to fly fish for trout one must usually travel to the mountains ideally to somewhere such as the Victorian Alps the highlands of Tasmania or the South Island of New Zealand. Luckily these conditions can also be found closer to our capital cities. The Goulburn is a world-class trout river a little more than two hours from Melbourne and Sydneysiders can wet a line in the central tablelands while Canberra has a host of choices nearby. What most of these places have in common is that they are very beautiful. Even if the fishing fails you have at least spent some time in spectacular surroundings which are often blessedly free from mobile phone coverage.

" The refusal comes just eight weeks after AusVeg made its constitution more inclusive – a change partly created by Mr Badcock who declined to comment. But AusVeg chief executive Rob Lawler said TFGA "hadn't come back to us" after he visited Tasmania with former board chair David Anderson. He said Tasmania's nomination had failed to get through the director's selection committee. "We went down there to explain I don't know what more we can do" Mr Lawler said. Share this article.

“It’s the first time ever in my life I’ve had all the family” she said. Her family includes her older sister Mary Washington who turned 100 earlier this year. The pair have always been close and consider themselves twins but Mary Washington says it wasn’t until her younger sister moved from England to Tasmania in 1940 that she realised just how close. “I knew a lot of people but I had no close friends because Margaret and I had done everything together” she said. She followed her sister to Tasmania a few years later and both women put their longevity down to the state’s serene lifestyle. The first 10 people who make application to attend the sale and register as a buyer will each receive a $300 travel allowance. Hopes dashed for Tasmanian Devils
BBC News UK
Cedric was believed to have a natural immunity to the viral disease which he could pass on to future generations. But two tumours on his face which have been removed have cast doubt on the two-year project to save the creatures. Scientists warn that the carnivorous marsupial could be extinct in the wild within 20 years. Cedric was the first Tasmanian Devil to show signs of immunity to the disfiguring disease which has wiped out half the devil population in Tasmania.
