He says the right for people to convert prime agricultural land to tree farms has been removed. Some residential development will now be allowed. Mr Bartlett says prime farming land is becoming scarce in Tasmania and must be protected for food production. The Resource Planning and Development Commission will examine the new policy and hold public consultation. Mr Bartlett says this will take a year so he is writing to the Governor to make the new draft policy effective immediately.
