At 52 after 18 years in parliament Mr Lennon plummeted to a17% approval rating in a local opinion poll last week. “There is no doubt that Mr Lennon’s public standing and supportin the community was virtually determined by (the pulp mill)” saidUniversity of Tasmania political analyst Richard Herr. Pulp millprojects had now claimed two premiers the associate professorsaid referring to Robin Gray and Mr Lennon. Mr Bartlett was left standing after the departure of two otherdeputies: Bryan Green who was unsuccessfully prosecuted twice forhis role in a business scandal and Steve Kons who resigned afterlying to parliament. Yesterday the circle was completed when Mr Bartlett who enteredthe House of Assembly on a recount forced by Mr Bacon’s death wassworn in wearing a tie given to him by Mr Bacon’s widow Honey. Mr Bartlett 40 proclaimed himself and his deputy LaraGiddings as the first generation-X political leaders of Tasmaniathough he is not the youngest premier.

Comdek has signing an option to acquire 100 per cent of the issued capital of Tiger Coal Pty Ltd (Tiger Coal) a company that has applied for two coal projects in Tasmania. The Jericho East and Jericho West coal projects are located in central Tasmania. They are black (bituminous) thermal coal projects located immediately adjacent to an underutilised freight railway line in the Midland Valley of Central Tasmania.

The figures are part of the Australian Institute of Management’s National Salary Review 2008 released today which surveyed 723 private and publicly listed companies around the country. In contrast wages in Victoria and Tasmania were expected to grow 5. 4 per cent and 5 per cent in Western Australia and Queensland. Employees in large companies in SA and the NT however are tipped to receive a pay rise of 4. 7 per cent next year which is only marginally behind the national average. The small business figures follow a year in which SA’s wages growth was the second lowest in the nation at 4.
