In 2006 Aaron was named Young Jazz Artist of the Year at the Australian Jazz Awards. Helene Chung is a former ABC Beijing Correspondent and was the first non-Caucasian reporter on Australian TV as well as being the first female posted abroad by the ABC. Her great-grandfather left China for Tasmania in the 1880s and became an opium addict. The pposition’s Infrastructure spokesman Peter Gutwein says regular negotiations are needed. “The fact that we now still don’t know just what Asciano’s view and Pacific National’s view is of its long term future in Tasmania is obviously concerning” he said. “The Government needs to get on top of that. The Greens’ Justice spokesman Nick McKim says Mr Porter has had a stellar legal career and is an excellent choice. But Mr McKim says the Greens and Liberal Party should have been involved in the selection process. “Traditionally pposition parties are consulted by the Government when the Government is considering filling judicial appointments that hasn’t happened in Tasmania to the extent that it should” he said. “But let’s face it transparency isn’t this government’s strong suit however none of that changes the fact that Mr Porter is an excellent appointment. Meanwhile a founding member of the Tasmanian Environmental Defenders ffice Lindi Wall has been appointed as a temporary magistrate. n May 1 Ms Wall will take on some of the work-load of a Hobart magistrate who’s working part time following maternity leave.
