But the Tasmanian Premier has asked Professor Garnaut to go further in his final report and assess how Tasmania’s forests can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And that’s meant the State’s Greens now find themselves in the unusual position of agreeing with the Premier. In Hobart Felicity gilvie reports. FELICITY GILVIE: The Tasmanian Premier wants his State’s forest industry to be included in Professor Garnaut’s response to climate change. The challenge is out there now for both sides of the debate to make sure that all their views are presented to Ross Garnaut. FELICITY GILVIE: Paul Lennon has asked Professor Garnaut to look at how Tasmania’s forests can help in the fight to reign in dangerous climate change. Melbourne University Forestry Professor Rod Keenan says forests are an effective way of storing carbon.

“bviously money unfortunately has a large part to do with anything” says Greg. “Awareness and education I think that’s even more important than money in this situation. Greg works with Tasmanian Devils on a daily basis and he believes the Tasmanian Devils are very misunderstood animals. “I think they’re an extremely misunderstood animal. just the day-to-day things that people believe about them such as aggression and being really smelly and very dirty and efficient hunters those things really couldn’t be further from the truth” says Greg.

Greg hopes the float will help educate people about the Tasmanian Devils. (abc local radio: Carol Raabus)… The Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Community is celebrating the thirtieth Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras in Sydney by helping save a true Tasmanian icon the Tasmanian Devil. “We’ve been talking about this on and off for many years” says Mark Howell one of the organisers. “The whole community the business community the gay community everybody has just come together to support this. The Tassie Devil Mardi Gras Parade 2008 has already managed to raise $10000 which they will donate to the Save the Tasmanian Devil fund and they hope to raise more money and perhaps more importantly raise more awareness of the Devil facial disease while in Sydney. “Half a million people line the streets of Sydney to watch the parade and then it is televised globally” says Mark.
