Reminder issued as Falls Festival gets into full swing

The two-day concert is held annually at Marion Bay in Tasmania’s south-east. It begins today with the first artist taking to the stage at 11am. International artists taking part this year include Groove Armada and Kings of Leon. Falls manager Mella Morgan says it is not a BY event.
Mottram wins Devonport Carnival

The 27-year-old lympic medal hopeful started from scratch and lapped most of the field to win the Devonport Mile in a time of 3. Mottram says he is happy running under four minutes and appreciated the crowd support.

The Christmas holiday road toll has risen to seven in Western Australia six in NSW and four in Queensland. Victoria still has the highest road toll in the nation at 11 after two young men died in separate accidents yesterday. There have been two deaths in South Australia and one each in the Northern Territory the ACT and Tasmania. An 18-year-old cyclist was riding down the steep Gehrke Hill Road at Summerholm west of Brisbane when he lost control of his mountain bike and crashed into a tree about 11. 45am (AEST) yesterday police said. The toll in NSW rose to six following the death of a 27-year-old Guyra man in a four-car collision near Chinderah on the north coast at about 10pm (AEDT) yesterday. In WA a 51-year-old pillion passenger died about 2pm (WDT) yesterday when the Harley-Davidson motorcycle she was on crashed into a tree on the Brockman Highway near Bridgetown south of Perth.
Champions League the prize for Twenty20 victors

Victoria are the reigning Twenty20 champions having won the first two domestic titles. This season’s competition has been expanded so every side plays each other once. Queensland and Victoria will clash in Townsville tomorrow while Western Australia host Tasmania at the WACA Ground. South Australia and NSW will then play at Adelaide val on New Year’s Day. Road safety crackdown

Two people have died on SA’s roads over the Christmas holiday period. "It’s unfortunate two people have died on our roads so hopefully people will listen to the road safety warning" Sen-Constable Turnbull said. Seven people have died in Western Australia six in New South Wales four in Queensland and one each in the ACT the Northern Territory and Tasmania. Share this article.
