That left Wild ats as the favorite to be the first yacht to reach Constitution Dock in Hobart Tasmania’s capital. City Index Leopard the new British maxi could be a challenger especially in strong headwinds. The Victorian state supermaxi Skandia which won in 2003 was also expected to be near the head of the fleet. Rosebud the entry from the United States emerged as a possible contender after taking handicap honors in the Big Boat Challenge and Rolex Trophy series. The international contingent also includes five other yachts from Britain and the first Hobart race entry from Mexico Iataia.

Neil Monks his wife Anne and sons Dean and Grant run a 8000ha property at Bothwell in central Tasmania. They say Mick is an integral part of Hunterston their fine merino sheep and hereford cattle operation. "He’s friendly and loves a pat and loves kids" says Dean 23.

Inmate recaptured after Christmas escape

Tasmanian Police said Robert Alan Derks was found by correctional services staff about 6. 30am (AEDT) today at New Norfolk about 3km from the prison. Derks 19 who escaped the minimum security prison farm between 8pm (AEDT) and 9pm yesterday was serving a prison term for burglary stealing and traffic matters.
