Tasmanian voting goes smoothly
abc.net.au – Nov 24, 2007
It says these will probably be from small booths round the State. However significant figures are not expected for about another hour. The Commission says it was a problem-free day at polling booths across Tasmania. About 350000 Tasmanians were expected to vote today at one of 315 booths around the state.
Labor’s clean sweep of Tasmania
abc.net.au – Nov 24, 2007
Two sitting Liberal members have been voted out Michael Ferguson from Bass and Mark Baker Braddon. Labor’s Sid Sidebottom has been re-elected to Braddon after he lost the seat in 2003 while in the neighbouring seat of Bass a former Launceston Deputy Mayor Jodie Campbell has claimed victory. In the state’s south Duncan Kerr has easily retained the seat which he first won in 1987 being returned with an increased majority as has Dick Adams in the seat of Lyons. Labor has also claimed victory in the southern Tasmanian seat of Franklin. The party’s candidate Julie Collins says there was a slight swing against the party because of Harry Quick’s retirement.
THE MARGINALS: Braddon Tasmania
National Indigenous Times – Nov 24, 2007
1%: Supporting Tasmania’s significant dairy and vegetable producing areas Braddon envelops the north west corner of the Apple Isle and is held by the Coalition’s Mark Baker by a slender 1. Howard’s surprise visit to the area to save the Mersey Hospital back in August was read more as a bid to win Braddon than a heart-felt distribution of healthcare funding. Baker’s competition comes in the form of Sid Sidebottom who previously held the seat for Labor back in 1998. Polls have predicted this will be the closest of the Tasmanian seats.
