The approval of the mill has dogged the Minister for theEnvironment Malcolm Turnbull and his Labor counterpart PeterGarrett in their neighbouring Sydney electorates with Greenscandidates campaigning hard on the issue and voter concern beingwhipped up by the businessman and former government adviserGeoffrey Cousins. In case Michael Ferguson the Liberal member for Bass or MarkBaker the Liberal member for Braddon or other MPs find themselvesunable to answer pundits’ questions about the mill the leafletprovides handy facts such as “47 per cent of Tasmania’s nativeforests are PRTECTED FREVER”. Yesterday Senator Abetz said the booklet was an attempt to helpGovernment members who might find themselves needing to set votersstraight on the mill. “Green misinformation cannot be allowed to stand uncorrected. For too long the Greens have got away with attacks on Tasmania’sforest industry based on glib lines myths and half-truths” hesaid.

The organisation says while Tasmania has an impressive level of reservation on public land many of the State’s unique ecosystems plants and animals occur on private land. In contrast with Recherche Bay this purchase in the Huon Valley looks set to proceed without controversy. AIRLIE WARD: The Egg Islands are just half an hour south of Hobart nestled in the Huon River. Driving south from Huonville you could be forgiven for thinking the land mass is the other side of the estuary. NATHAN MALES: There are two islands and they stretch from Huonville or just south of Huonville to well south of Franklin they’re over 10km long in the channel of the Huon River.
