What is the future of Australia’s forest-based industries?
ABC Regional nline – ABC Regional nline – Sep 13, 2007
TranscriptJEFF McMULLEN: Very good. We want to move now to some of the bigger national issues to look at the future viability of woodchipping our nation’s forests. Can we and should we grow the timber industry in our increasingly dry country. Jill you believe we should? JILL LEWIS: I most certainly should.
Water bills will rise – soon

Just so we can pay less for waterWe must remember that any cost made to the bigger water user will be paid for by us in price increases so why waste time complianing how they should pay more I still think a desal plant is a dangerous idea as we do not understand the waste output fully. but the government has to be seen doing something so this is it. I would like more dams and water from the top end and Tasmania piped into the Murray before we spend on a desal plant in the long run it would be cost less and be more eco friendly. Because a desal plant in the gulf will kill the gulf in 30 to 50 years but hay I will not be around to see. Another point as i am writing this my 10000 gallon water tank is being filled the smaller tank of my shed id currently full and i have diverted the water to the big tank But again i only live in a small 3 bedroom home and i am wasting space to have these tanks or am IPosted by: Mick S of adelaide 5:15pm September 13 2007The fact that $300 mil. profit from SAWater is going into general revenue is one thing the fact that and $250 mil. is going into the coffers of a foreign company is quite another… Private companies have no interest in water conservation or conservation of any resource for that mater. Resources are there for them to make a profit pure and simple. Posted by: DenisF of Adelaide 4:58pm September 13 2007Its cheaper to get water from Tasmania. There's more than enough to flush the Murray River and bring back a stable supply to Adelaide. It will cost about one third of the desal rate and can be running by Feb 2010. It will last hundreds of years. Tasmania wants to sell water.

ABC nline – ABC nline – Sep 13, 2007
Greenham and Sons which runs a plant at Smithton is considering making an offer for the Tasman Group which owns the Longford Devonport and King Island abattoirs as well as several interstate meatworks and a feedlot. Greenham’s Finance Director Grant Ryan says Tasmania’s product is tempting. “Tasmania is a terrific place it’s got a sensational name both in Australia and around the world for meat quality Tasman’s become available we’ll certainly have a look at it” Mr Ryan said. Reg Mombassa fights Tasmanian pulp mill
NEWS.com.au – Sep 13, 2007
article-tools –> By Elizabeth Fortescue September 13 2007 12:00am ARTIST and muso Chris ‘Doherty aka Reg Mombassa admits he is not “an outdoor type”. But when the Wilderness Society asked him to support its campaign to fight plans for a $1. 7 billion pulp mill in Tasmania ‘Doherty was happy to pick up his charcoal. In one drawing ‘Doherty drew trees running from the dreaded "log monster". In another he drew a cannon blasting away at vegetation. ‘Doherty’s drawings are in black and white but for him the pulp mill stoush – now looming as a federal election issue – is not so clear.
Probe into football club fire
ABC Regional nline – ABC Regional nline – Sep 13, 2007
The fire destroyed the top floor of redeveloped clubrooms at the Launceston Football Club’s Windsor Park headquarters. Firefighters were called to the clubrooms about 8. 30 last night and say the flames could be seen several kilometres away. The fire comes about a week before Launceston seeks its second consecutive Northern Tasmanian Football League premiership.
