At their recent AGM the Abalone industry agreed to commit at least one and possibly up to two million dollars over the next 5 years to the brand. Head of the Tasmanian Abalone Council Dean Lisson said the branding will backed up with a quality assurance code and promotional activity with importers and distributors in China the industry’s biggest single market. “The objective is to develop a premium Tasmanian brand for abalone which is underpinned by a quality assurance code of practice this is nothing new most other food sector exporters have already done these sorts of things so I guess we could say we’ve probably been lagging a little bit. ” Dean Lisson said the need has become even more important given the Victorian abalone industry is grappling with the devastating abalone disease ganlioneuritis.

Kate Ceberano visited Mornings the other day and (while we were having a pre-chat chat) stopped dead when she heard “Can I Stay” from Ray La Montagne’s new album ‘Till The Sun Turns Black’; at which point the normally wonderfully voluble Kate went silent. Ray La Montagne has that effect on me too: his beautifully-written songs delivered in a warm whisper reach straight for the heartstrings and never misses. It’s hard to believe this bloke is only in his early thirties; and harder still to imagine him working in a shoe factory when his magnificent first album ‘Trouble’ was released in 2004. Hardest of all to figure is why a record company would wait a full year before releasing this record in Australia! (You know who you are) ‘Till The Sun Turns Black’ takes Ray La Montagne into new territory and there is a space in his music or perhaps the way it’s arranged that suggests he’s growing more comfortable in his remarkable creative abilities.

I mean this deserves a proper public hearing. Malcolm agrees with it. He’s the one who said the Tasmanian Government was wrong to abandon that process arbitrarily simply because the company Gunns complained about it. Said it was taking too long. Who cares what Gunns think about this issue. The important thing is… TNY JNES: The Tasmanian Government does for one thing. GEFFREY CUSINS: Well indeed they do they seem to be under the thumb of this company quite frankly. TNY JNES: We’ll come to that in a moment though because you’re at the present moment targeting a Federal minister who more or less says this is not his fault and you’re putting him in a position where he’s got to act is that right? Are you going to keep this up targeting him in Wentworth until he intervenes?GEFFREY CUSINS: Well he’s our only hope.

50 odds on offer with a $30000 bet when news of Mr Rudd’s strip club trip broke. The bookmaker also says wagering indicates that Labor is likely to regain total dominance in Tasmania. "ur betting records show that momentum is growing amongst punters for the ALP to make a clean sweep of the five Tasmanian electorates" Mr Sullivan said. He says Labor has been well backed on the marginal seats of Bass and Braddon in Tasmania. In particular the price on Sid Sidebottom in Braddon has been slashed from $1. 40 in the past six weeks.
