Brown dismisses Lib’s prediction of Greens chaos
The Australian – Jul 28, 2007
"His real agenda is clearly shown by him appointing Peter Garrett to the environment and getting rid of Martin Ferguson as forestry spokesman" he said. Senator Abetz said he would campaign on an agenda asserting that Labor would lock up more forests if elected because it would be forced to negotiate with the Greens in the Senate. "If they won’t lock up more forests in Tasmania can he please tell the people of Australia where the further lock-ups are going to be?" Senator Abetz said Mr Rudd had not neutralised the forest issue because he has been dragged "kicking and screaming to make this statement at the end of his two days in Tasmania". "Undoubtedly if he wins he will say to the Australian people ‘I’m sorry Bob Brown is now in control of the Senate and I have to start locking up (forests)’. That’s what people in timber seats have to take into account. "You never make a deal with the Greens without them asking for a huge price and that is why we don’t.
