Talks to avert strike
NEWS.com.au – Jul 31, 2007
Tasmania’s next scheduled meeting is at Launceston on Sunday. Victorian Jockeys’ Association chief executive Des ‘Keeffe said jockeys throughout Australia would support strike action by Tasmanian riders. The other option to maintain racing in Tasmania would be to stage a meeting with the state’s seven apprentices. "I’d be surprised if any insurance company would support that’ ‘Keeffe said. Jockeys are seeking a $5 per ride fee for medical cover to be paid by the Tasmanian racing industry. Representatives of the Tasmanian Thoroughbred Racing Council Tote Tasmania and jockeys will meet today in a bid to end the impasse. A meeting on Sunday between jockeys and TTRC failed to resolve the matter.

GVERNMENT RESPNSIBLE FR MASSIVE ELECTRICITY PRICE HIKE
Tasmanian Greens – Jul 31, 2007
Greens Acting Leader Nick McKim MHA said that Tasmanians doing in tough will find it impossible to cope with the massive increases in the cost of electricity which have been proposed which Mr McKim attributed to strategic failures by Labor in the energy sector over the last ten years. “This news will send a shudder through Tasmanians already struggling to make ends meet and if the proposed increase becomes a reality Paul Lennon will have no choice but to assist low income Tasmanians by increasing the Electricity Rebate currently on offer to Pensioners and Health Care Card holders” Mr McKim said. “Many Tasmanian households are already having to make extremely difficult decisions to nurse their budget through the week and finding the money to cover a 15% increase in the price of electricity will be absolutely impossible without further assistance. Mr McKim said that much of the increase is a backdoor tax as tens of missions of dollars made by Aurora and Hydro will end up in government coffers via dividend payments by 2010… Greens Acting Leader Nick McKim MHA said that Tasmanians doing in tough will find it impossible to cope with the massive increases in the cost of electricity which have been proposed which Mr McKim attributed to strategic failures by Labor in the energy sector over the last ten years. King Island Lactos Tasmanian Heritage and Heidi Farm nowbelong to multinational retail giant National Foods and what wereonce deli-only products are now widely available insupermarkets. Some experts see this as a dumbing down of these brands whileothers say staff at large stores are simply not geared to lookingafter cheeses properly. Poor handling by non-specialist mass-market retailersdetermines not only quality but ultimately consumer perceptions. It’s estimated that 90 per cent of white mould cheeses are soldbefore they are properly matured. “The main problem is retailersbeing educated enough to handle and understand the cheese in allits aspects and to educate the buyer” Smith says.

Mr Quick who is bitterly critical of the Labor candidate forhis seat Kevin Harkins will take Mr Hockey to meet elderlycitizens and play a game of “pingo” — a non-monetary form ofbingo. Mr Quick has repeatedly strongly attacked Mr Harkins who isfrom the Electrical Trades Union and this month faced civil chargesover an illegal strike as a union thug and totally unsuitable.
