“If those smells permeate my property it’s going to interfere with the sensory evaluation of the wine but most importantly I think it’s going to ruin our reputation. The Tourism Minister Paula Wriedt says she’ll take on board the concerns and report back to operators soon. Ms Wriedt says Tourism Tasmania has a major role to play in the pulp mill project. “If the decision of both houses of parliament is then to go ahead with the granting of the pulp mill permit then obviously there will be of course an ongoing role for Tourism Tasmania to play in the lead up to the construction of the mill and its operation to ensure we minimise and mitigate any of these concerns as much as we possibly can” she said. Premier Paul Lennon says the roads and highways into northern Hobart are a disgrace and he wants to spend $280 million on them over five years. Mr Lennon says the Federal Government has spent 90% of Tasmania’s National Highway funding on routes in the state’s north. The Chairman of the Southern Tasmanian Councils Authority Lord Mayor Rob Valentine wants a Federal funding commitment as soon as possible. Alderman Valentine says the Auslink network should include Brooker Avenue and the eastern outlet to the Hobart Airport “They are the major roads in terms of commercial activity” he said.
